Emily J. Hynds.
Emily Hynds is a writer and artist in Houston, TX. She co-produces the monthly storytelling series Grown-up Storytime and writes and produces her own plays, often in someone’s living room. Emily’s plays are über naturalistic; mumblecore-esque; anti-establishment; and intimate in theme, environment, and presentation. Her plays feature characters blindsided by confrontation in the small moments of everyday life, producing a voyeuristic experience akin to reading someone’s diary or eavesdropping on gossip. Emily is interested in what we (she) feels bad about, and why. Her plays have been described as “insightful and wry and really fucking funny.”
Since June of 2020, Emily has covered Houston city council meetings via her project Emily Takes Notes, which has grown into a community staple that helps journalists, city and county employees, community advocates, and most importantly — every day people who can’t make it down to city hall every Wednesday to catch a meeting.
